Final Project Materials

For my hand-manipulated collages that will contribute to my auto-ethnographic study, I'll be using doilies that I've collected throughout the years as my collage base and I'll be adorning them with makeup, tea, and other personal items that I associate with my everyday life. I've gathered these from restaurant visits and have saved them for a special art project and I'm planning to make a garland of sorts with them that will tell my story associated with self-image and the media.

For my final book, I've been working on different collages and text that will be laid out in the 5x5 book. I wanted the size to be smaller so that it may feel more intimate and personal. So far I have 7 collages and have been working on a string of 10 doilies to include. My book will also include photography that is personal to me. I want it to be a collection of my experience through many different mediums.

RESEARCH MATERIALS

I'll be referencing the Clinton and Leavy reading Arts-based research and the reading Collage as Inquiry from earlier this semester as well. I really want to take a deep dive into how these research methods have informed my research and how the act of art-making has worked to be one of the most important parts of my exploration. I want to explore how collage can create a sensory response from audiences and how they can relate parts of their own experience to that which being artistically shown. I also wanted to focus on the ambiguity of collage and how that works to express the said and unsaid concepts that leave collage very open to interpretation. I've been looking back at my presentation on collage and taking notes again from that reading. Also looking into how collage uses found images that may compare to others and act as a connection to certain concepts is something that has been very important to my inquiry.
